Life in the liquid is a new on-going series of Images that have only just started to grow. Moments of beauty between all the madness of swimming around in big swells and storms of the Ocean. Portraying different shapes and colours from the Irish coastlines. Spending hours in the Ocean is what I love the most and being able to bring my camera in to capture what I see and share it with people is what this project is all about.

No. 1

This first Image from the Life in the Liquid is this one from Spanish Point, Co.Clare.

Spanish Point is my local beach and this was taken on a swim out one late evening in October. The light coming through the back of this wave really makes this image pop and also makes it look a lot warmer than it really was.

I want Life in the Liquid to really show people who don’t use the sea what they miss. Moments of beauty around our Oceans like this one of a few Seagulls enjoying a winter sunset at Whitestrand beach Co.Clare. Seagulls often soar over for a look when they see surfer or other water users, in this case its me floating aound with my camera.

The first image of a 4 photo sequence. I loved everyone of them but decided to just include this one and the next as part of Life in the Liquid. This is taken on a lovely sunny day at Fanore Co.Clare.

Fanore is an amazing place to swim around. With mountains of Burren behind you and this happening in front of you its hard not to be humbled by the beautiful location. However these two images did not come easy. I got smashed pretty bad. Read under the next image for the full story.

Fanore Co.Clare.

As I said on the last Image. These shots are great but I got smashed. As i shot these images the wave picked me and sucked me over. Usually this is fine if the water is deep but this wave breaks over about 3ft of Burren slab. I got rolled around for a little while under water, holding my camera up as high as I could to make sure it stayed away from the rocks, before popping to get a nice breath of air.

It’s good to get a taster of what the ocean is capably of doing to you and feeling its power.

This image is also from Fanore Co.Clare.

A lovely little wave showing its power.

This image is from Bundoran in Co.Donegal.

My initial thought was to not include any people in Life in the Liquid series but after getting this image of Bundoran’s Conor Maguire I changed my mind.

Conor is about to be ran over by a nice cold Atlantic wall of water. I love the lighting and Conor’s body language too.

I like this shot a lot because of the moody sky in the background. It really helps show the offshore spray blowing off the back of the wave.

Co.Mayo

Wondering along an absolutely beautiful stretch of coastline in Co.Mayo when I got this one. This wave breaks on about a foot of water. Very very shallow but amazing to watch and swim around in.

Bundoran
Co.Donegal

On my way over to this spot in Bundoran when I got this behind the peak angle of my friend Dickie taking off on an early morning beauty. The light was so crisp this morning but it was so so cold.

Another shot from Bundoran. It kind of looks like I messed with this in Photoshop but iv done nothing. It’s a mixture of great morning light and river water from the river near by. Shooting in a spot close to a river always makes the water really really cold. On this day the water was some of the coldest iv swam in this winter.

Spanish Point
Co.Clare

This shot was taken one evening in late January. The light was so good so I went for a swim by myself as the sun dropped. I love how projected the lip is from this wave and how you can see out the other side.

The Cliffs of Moher, Co.Clare

Got this shot late one evening while out at the big wave spot Aileens. Aileens is placed at the bottom of the Cliffs of Moher and has to be one of the most amazing places to be in the water. Spent 6hours on a Jetski this day and even though the light made it look warm it was really really cold.
Them white dots on the cliff edge are seagulls.

Another Image from Aileens. People seem to think this is photoshopped but the light was really like this in the barrel. Thick Beautiful Monster!
